Hellenic Navy Submarine Command
The Hellenic Submarine Command was established in 1912. During this year, 2 Submarines, (HS DELFIN and HS XIFIAS), built in France, joined the Hellenic Naval Forces. Both Subs participated in the Balkan Wars (1912-13) and remained in service until 1920.
The Hellenic Navy has been the first navy ever to fire a torpedo against an enemy target. The torpedo was fired on the 9th of December 1912 from HS DELFIN commanded by Lt Paparigopoulos, against the enemy battleship Medjidieh, without success.
